Positive discipline is a technique to discipline your children without threatening or giving punishment. It involves effective communication between both parents & children.

Through positive discipline, children are taught to understand the consequences of their behaviour/attitude. Moreover, positive discipline teaches children to be responsible and respect those they interact with within the home and community.

Positive discipline aims to raise children’s attitude awareness and dicipline without giving a reward, threat, or even punishment.

Try these positive disciple tips at home:

1. Focus on the child’s good attitude/behavior. Believe there is no such thing as a “Bad Kid.”
2. Show them the importance of doing / not doing certain things such as chores, schoolwork, helping around the house.
3. If you talk to them about the effects of their actions, (positive or negative), you can help them to develop their thinking and better understand their emotion
4. Do not get angry and communicate with love and care. Give understanding and explain your side. It is not reward or punishment but makes them feel involved in the process.
5. Make time to connect with your children. Having quality time with them gives you an opportunity to share their interests and for them to share yours. (You will be surprised at what you learn and how much you have in common)

Positive discipline helps children and adults understand  that conflict is an opportunity to learn something. If two children are facing a problem, at school or at home, we encourage them to implement problem solving while considering what they learned from positive discipline. He/She will therefore learn to understand each others feelings and take action to resolve the conflict.

These Problem-Solving steps does magic in our classrooms which parents can also apply at home.

1. Approach calmly, stopping any hurtful actions.

• Place yourself on the child’s level.
• Use calm voice and gentle touch.
• Remain neutral rather than take sides.

2. Acknowledge children’s feelings.

• “You look really upset.”
• Let the children know you need to hold any object in question.

3. Gather information.

• “What’s the problem.”

4. Restate the problem.

• “So, the problem is…”

5. Ask ideas for solution and choose one together.

• “What can we do to solve the problem.”
• Encourage children to think of a solution.

6. Be prepared to give follow-up support.

• “You solved the problem!”
• Stay near the children.

When you think of maths, are you a little nervous, or interested?

In case you didn’t notice, Math is everywhere. It’s embedded in everything we do. So with a little awareness, by sharing everyday activities, playing and interacting with your child, you can familiarize them with Math concepts without under pressure.

Can you think of an activity that involves Math? Yes, cooking … Through cooking, we practice Math skills such as measuring water, salt, and flour .

Sekolah Highscope Indonesia Bintaro held  a fun way of learning Math & technology applications at home, work and other places through parents sharing session as guest speakers in class and in each grade level.  We also  gathered parents  to learn Math through “Parents Do Math” session wherein they had the chance to experience how the teachers teach Math in the classroom. Parents learned to understand the appropriate ways to help their children learn Math and develop Mathematical sense with our energetic and creative Math teachers as well as  nullifying the connotation of learning Math is hard and not fun. At the end of the session,  parents realized that HighScope is not weak in Mathematics, instead HighScope teaches Math to target concepts and skills.

Sekolah Highscope Indonesia Bintaro (SHIB) dengan sukacita menyelengarakan kegiatan vaksinasi COVID-19 dosis kedua untuk anak usia 6-11 tahun. Hampir 90% dari total 232 siswa dan siswi SHIB yang memenuhi syarat mendapatkan vaksin dengan didampingi oleh orang tua dan guru.

Sebelumnya, vaksinasi COVID-19 dosis pertama dilaksanakan di SHIB pada Desember lalu diikuti oleh 167 anak. Vaksinasi anak usia 6-11 tahun ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kekebalan tubuh dari virus COVID-19, serta membantu pemerintah untuk mencapai target kekebalan kelompok atau herd immunity di Indonesia. Jenis vaksin yang disuntikkan kepada siswa-siswi SHIB adalah vaksin Sinovac. Acara ini terselenggara atas kerjasama SHIB dengan Puskesmas Sawah Baru.

Tidak ketinggalan juga beberapa siswa dan orang tua berfoto di depan spanduk bertuliskan “Saya Sudah Divaksin” setelah mendapatkan vaksinasi. Ibu Yuli, orang tua dari Atha siswi kelas 4-5, berkesempatan untuk memberikan komentar positif tentang terselenggaranya Program Vaksinasi COVID-19 di SHIB. “Hari ini proses vaksinasi berjalan lancar, berharap anak-anak jauh lebih sehat, kita semua aman dan lebih tenang untuk anak-anak kembali ke sekolah”, tuturnya.

Terima kasih kepada orang tua murid, siswa-siswi, serta para guru dan staff yang telah bersama-sama menyukseskan kegiatan vaksinasi COVID-19 di SHIB. Mari kita dukung terus program pemerintah untuk mempercepat penuntasan pandemi di Indonesia, agar kita bisa kembali melakukan berbagai aktivitas di sekolah dengan aman dan nyaman. Ingat! Sudah vaksin bukan berarti kita bebas dari ancaman virus COVID-19. Tetap jaga protokol kesehatan dan selalu lakukan 5M (Memakai masker, Mencuci tangan pakai sabun dan air mengalir, Menjaga jarak, Menjauhi kerumunan, dan Membatasi mobilitas dan interaksi).
